writings from a tree meditation

i am rooted
grounded in the wonder of the earth
in that glorious fragrance of
sun-kissed desert dust
juniper and piñon
and the sound of cicadas
making everything feel hot
desolate and hot
hot, blurry horizon hot
entering earth’s inner fire indeed
i have found Her here in the desert

my roots go deep like a piñon
my passion for planet, plants, people
spirit and the deep river of knowing
beneath all that is
my grandpa says i was full of blue mud
blue mud, water and earth
maybe with a little mucky algae
hard to come by in the desert

nature was my friend
who formed me through childhood and now
she flows into my heart with a force so fierce
she causes me to be breathless
arousing my body
my source, my life,
my inspiration for creative flows
my body knows

oh, the dark chaotic
abyss of the cosmos
the edge of knowing
where i long to reach
rooted in earth
reaching to the edge of knowing
where chaos dwells
where tehom is

these come into me
coalescing at the place in my Being
that vibrates when a low drum is struck
and flow out through writing
i long for others to know this song

The tree meditation which prompted the above freeflow writing was led by me, and surprisingly, i was able to engage fully with it without becoming too self-conscious of my voice. It was part of the Women Who Wildly Wonder gathering that has been meeting for the last six weeks. The practice is meant to help those who engage in it become more aware of body, aware of sources of energy, aware of the creative streams that flow, and where it all coalesces within oneself.

i am sticking to the blue mud. More on that later.
